Emergencies can happen at ay time, and being prepared is especially important for individuals with disabilities, seniors, and those with accessibility needs. CILO's disaster preparedness program helps people create personalized emergency plans, build disaster supply kits, identify evacuation options, connect with local emergency resources, and can assist with guidance on signing up for special needs shelters.
Our staff also provides educational sessions and presentations on hurricane readiness, hot weather advisories, power outage planning, medication & medical equipment preparedness, service animal considerations, and other steps to help individuals remain as safe and independent as possible during emergencies.
CILO Attends the Florida Hurricane Conference
At the Florida Governor's Hurricane Conference, disability service providers collaborate with emergency management professionals to ensure disaster planning, response, and recovery efforts are accessible and inclusive of people with disabilities. Attending the conference helps organizations like CILO strengthen partnerships, share best practices, and advocate for the unique needs of individuals with disabilities.
